Can't help with accomodation but remember that in this area "le grand vacance" still exists and lots of places are shut, completely, in August. It's not too bad in Bordeaux itself , which is beautiful, but in the sticks you can go for hours without anything being open.....not fun if you have to keep youngsters entertained. The only way round it is to click immediately into their timescale. Forget popping out for a sandwich at lunchtime. You need to be prepared and get stuff early on because you won't be able to at lunchtime.
